Find Free TV White Spaces Channels Anywhere in the USA
The transition to digital TV on June 12th 2009 liberated vast amount of wireless frequencies that can be used by anyone – for FREE! These newly available frequencies are collectively called TV band white spaces channels - or just white spaces, for short. White spaces will allow you to take advantage of exciting new wireless networking products.
Once the FCC releases the rules and certification requirements for white spaces radios, we could see WIFI and other wireless systems that use these new frequencies in 12 to 18 months after rules are published. One of the main benefits of white spaces frequencies is that they are typically able to provide better coverage throughout your home, business or town than existing unlicensed frequency bands. In addition to these ways you can use white spaces, new cordless phone/video systems, whole-house media distribution, remote control & monitoring products and many other cool wireless devices are expected to follow.
However, to use these new frequencies in your home, business or town, there must be available TV white space channels at these locations. To find out which TV white space channels are available at any address or location in the USA, use the free search tool below.
On October 21, 2009, Spectrum Bridge announced that it had deployed the world’s first TV white spaces network in Claudville, Virginia. The network is being used to distribute high speed Internet access to the town’s business district, local school and other locations in the community. Dell, Microsoft and the TDF Foundation also contributed computer hardware and software to the community and local school in support of the project. You can find a short case study (pdf) on the Claudville network HERE.
January 5, 2010 UPDATE: Spectrum Bridge submitted it's proposal to the FCC to be named as a TV white spaces database manager on 1/4/10. You can find our official proposal HERE.
A total of nine companies submitted proposals to be named as database administrators. You can find FCC postings of all the proposals HERE.
